In order for any solid fuel appliance to work efficiently and safely it is important to remove soot build-up from flue ways and chimneys. Soot is a flammable by-product of combustion and must be removed regularly.

The build-up of soot and chemical deposits within chimneys and flues not only restrict their performance (and we do need to stay warm and cosy in this part of the world!), but also significantly increase the risks of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and Fire.

How often?

Current recommendations are:

Chimneys with appliances burning smokeless fuels - at least once a year

Domestic house coal – at least twice a year

Wood burning appliances – quarterly when in use (about every 90 fires)

Gas or oil appliances – once a year

Book your appointment today

Call 01298 213359 to book your appointment. I am available Monday to Friday and the occasional Saturday morning. Certain times of the year are busier than others of course. Our busiest period is September to January, so if you require a sweep annually you will get an appointment at much shorter notice at other times of the year.

Advance bookings are welcomed and a re-book or reminder service is available to ensure that the job doesn’t get forgotten and you get the date you want.

How to prepare for my visit

Before I arrive, please ensure that any fire debris has been removed from theSam, sweeping a chimney grate and remove any ornaments from the hearth. Leave a roughly 6ft square area clear in front of the fireplace.

There's no need to remove pictures, curtains or take up carpets - although some customers prefer to cover their furniture with dust sheets.

With Sam the Sweep, having your chimney swept is not the major operation it once was. Our investment in new technology means that traditional brush sweeping, combined with special fireplace screens, a modern high-powered vacuum - and of course a skilled sweep! - guarantees a clean and efficient job.
